United Way Offers FREE Tax Assistance!

United Way to Offer Free Tax Filing

United Way of Bartholomew County will offer free income tax filing to Bartholomew County residents through the VITA and AARP programs from February to April this year. Last year’s Free Income Tax Assistance served over 1000 local residents and collectively saved residents over $96,000 in taxpayer fees.

The programs offer free tax help to Bartholomew County residents who make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide confidential and secure basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Volunteer tax preparers also help to ensure that families and individuals receive qualified tax credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

2-1-1 of South Central Indiana will accept reservations for Free Income Tax Assistance starting January 23. Interested Bartholomew County residents should dial 2-1-1 to schedule an appointment. Reservations will be taken on a first-come first-serve basis.

Free Income Tax Assistance appointments will be conducted from February 1 – April 17. Multiple tax sites are available throughout Bartholomew County including the Doug Otto United Way Center, America and Roby Anderson Community Center, Mill Race Center and Sandy Hook United Methodist Church.

The Free Income Tax Assistance programs will help United Way to forward its mission of increasing the financial stability of Bartholomew County residents.
